Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments

What are Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments?

Our Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments are a protein produced by a bacterium that blocks the release of acetylcholine, which is the substance responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that make the muscles contract.

In medicine the Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment is inserted directly into hyperactive muscles to stop them contracting. It has been safely and effectively used for the treatment of strabismus (cross eye) and blepharospasm (lid spasm) since the early eighties.

How does the Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments work?

Hyperactivity of the facial expression muscles often result in the development of deep frown lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows),
forehead lines (horizontal lines going across the forehead) and crow's feet (sometimes known as laughter lines, develop at the outer corners of the eye). Injecting the Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments into the affected area, temporarily paralyses the underlying muscle responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles appear smoother.

The initial effects of treatment become visible within 48 to 72 hours. The maximum effect is reached in about 1 to 2 weeks. Your facial expression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like. The overall result is very natural.

The effect of treatment generally lasts for 2-7 months, on average for 4-5 months. Re-treatment is then required to maintain the result. Should the muscles not be re-treated, your facial appearance will return to how it was before treatment.

Static wrinkles due to skin thinning will not be improved by the Wrinkle Relaxing Treatments. Other types of management may be required.
