Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels have been used in the cosmetic industry for decades, they are a very safe, non-invasive treatment for those with aging, sun damaged, or discoloured skin. They are a very simple and quick procedure completed in around 30 minutes, and can provide you with great results with the benefit of a limited downtime.

What do they do?

• Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles
• Evens out skin tone tackles sun spots, hyperpigmentation
• Improves acne and rosacea and reduces pore size
• Smoother skin texture increasing production of collagen for tighter skin.

What areas can be treated with Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels are most commonly applied to the face and neck, however can also be used on the arms, hands, feet, chest, and back. To further enhance your results, the treatment can be used in combination with microdermabrasion and at-home tailored skincare to further enhance results.
The chemical peel will cause the skin cells at the top layer of the skin to “unbind” and will eventually peel off a layer of skin. Most patients feel a warming sensation on the treated area during the procedure, which lasts about 10 minutes, and some stinging may also occur. Deeper peels can be quite hot on the skin and result in quite a bit of peeling, sloughing and take longer to heal.

How do I prepare for a Chemical Peel?

Epidermal peels are performed in the privacy and comfort of our clinic. If you suffer from psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis or rosacea; are pregnant or nursing; have an infection; or have taken roaccutane in the past 6 months, the appointment should be postponed for a later date. We will determine your eligibility during your consultation to determine if this is suitable procedure for you.
When the peel is being applied to your skin, you may experience some mild tingling and stinging. Minor peeling and flaking after your treatment is also to be expected and very common.
Improving your skin’s health can involve a variety of approaches. During your complimentary consultation, our practitioner can design an individual skin rejuvenating program tailored to meet your specific needs and budget. Epidermal peels are most effective in a series of 6 treatments performed two to four weeks apart. Cost-effective packages are available.

What do I do after a peel?

Many patients do not experience significant downtime after a peel although some redness, sensitivity, and flaking can occur within the first few days and is all part of the process. It is vitally important that you apply high factor broad spectrum sun protection on your skin frequently on the newly formed peeled skin. Natural sun exposure and sunbeds should be avoided for a month after your peel. This maintains the effect of your peel, protecting it from hyperpigmentation and further environmental damage.
You can wear make up on peeled skin as long as it is mineral make up as this reduces the possibility of infection and is a great option for sensitive skin.
